Clegg, Cameron and Brown mark World Poverty Day

Party Leaders Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron have all marked election 2010 World Poverty Day today.
 
Clegg and Brown made speeches to church congregations to highlight their respective party’s policies on international development. 
 
In New Malden, Surrey, Nick Clegg spoke of the moral duty to address the issue of poverty and the need for Britain to keep its aid promises to the poor, change world trade rules in favour of the poor and to address climate change. 
 
At the Wesley’s Chapel in London, Gordon Brown spoke of the religious basis of many progressive movements and paid tribute to activists campaigning against third world poverty. Brown also wrote to the leaders of Britain’s UK aid and development charities on global poverty.
 
David Cameron and Conservative International Development spokesperson Andrew Mitchell visited the Birmingham distribution depot of Islamic Relief. Cameron also wrote in the Independent on Sunday about international development.
